The Coalition of Conscientious Citizens (3Cs) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, to publicly declare his assets.

This demand comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly for six months.

The coalition, led by Executive Director Dr. Gabriel Nnaji, cited Section 185(1) of the Constitution, which requires elected governors to declare their assets before taking office.

Although Ibas was appointed, the group argues that he should still uphold transparency standards.

Concerns have been raised about the rapid depletion of Rivers State’s funds within two weeks of Ibas’s tenure.

The coalition questions the sudden release of withheld local government allocations without legal justification and alleges that the suspension of Governor Fubara’s appointees is intended to conceal large-scale mismanagement of state resources.

The 3Cs has vowed to closely monitor Ibas’s administration and promises legal consequences for any misuse of state resources.

Failure to comply with the ultimatum will lead to legal action, emphasizing that Ibas’s appointment, rather than election, adds to the burden of transparency.
