Dangote Petroleum Refinery has made history by becoming the first refinery globally to achieve and sustain a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day on its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Motor Spirit (MS) Block.
This remarkable feat follows a scheduled maintenance exercise, with both units now operating at optimal levels.
The refinery’s CEO, David Bird, praised the team’s exceptional precision and expertise, stating that this milestone underscores the refinery’s strength, reliability, and engineering quality.
The refinery is now poised to significantly boost Nigeria’s fuel supply, with plans to deliver up to 75 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily.
This achievement is expected to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported refined petroleum products, conserve foreign exchange, and strengthen the country’s drive towards energy self-sufficiency.
Dangote Refinery’s future plans include expanding its capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day, making it the largest refinery in the world.
The refinery is also set to list a significant portion of its shares on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) in 2026, aiming to democratise ownership and allow Nigerians to share in the value creation.
