Suspected bandits have abducted a catechist of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kadarko, his pregnant wife, and more than 30 other residents in Kagarko Local Government Area, Kaduna State, triggering mass fear among villagers.

The attack has left the community largely deserted, with most residents fleeing to nearby villages.

Rev. Fr Linus Matthew Bobai, the Parish Priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kadarko, described the situation as tense, saying “We are handicapped. The community, we are under tension.” He added that despite the threat, some residents, particularly pastors, have chosen to stay and support the community.

The abduction comes amid rising insecurity in the region, with several incidents of banditry and kidnapping reported in recent weeks.

The community is calling for increased security measures to protect residents and ensure the safe release of the abducted individuals.
