The alleged incident, which reportedly occurred on Sunday, February 15, sparked widespread outrage on social media, trending under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen, with thousands calling for urgent action against sexual assault and stronger protection for survivors.

“Following our earlier statement and the massive public response, we established contact with a close friend of the survivor who confirmed her discharge from the hospital,” the agency said. “We sincerely appreciate members of the public who provided useful information via direct messages and tagged the Agency to ensure swift intervention.”

The DSVA clarified that the assault took place in Ogun State, placing it outside the agency’s jurisdiction.

“We have confirmed that the incident occurred in Ogun State and is therefore outside the Lagos State DSVA’s jurisdiction,” the statement read. “In the spirit of interagency collaboration and survivor protection, all relevant information has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State.”

The agency expressed confidence that the Ogun State Police Command is now handling the investigation and that the survivor will cooperate fully to ensure a thorough process.

“We understand that the Ogun State Police Command is handling the matter and trust that the survivor will cooperate with authorities to enable a comprehensive investigation,” the DSVA added.

The agency also reiterated its commitment to supporting survivors and maintaining accessible reporting channels, providing multiple contacts for assistance, including a direct line (0813-796-0048), a toll-free number (0-8000-333-333), MTN USSD code (*6820#), and a WhatsApp AI Chatbox (0812-893-7058).
