The Ogun State Police Command has addressed circulating reports regarding a viral TikTok video alleging a violent sexual assault, stressing that the victim was never arrested when she first reported the incident.

The controversy emerged on Sunday when TikToker Mirabel (@mirab351) posted a distressing video claiming she had been sexually assaulted in her apartment. In the clip, which quickly went viral across platforms including X (formerly Twitter), she alleged that a stranger broke into her home while she was unconscious, physically assaulted her, and raped her. Mirabel also claimed the attacker sent threatening messages and that the trauma had led her to attempt suicide. The video sparked widespread outrage, sympathy, and calls for justice.

Initial reports mistakenly placed the incident in Lagos, prompting responses from Lagos State authorities. However, investigations revealed the incident actually occurred in Ogijo, Ogun State, placing it under the jurisdiction of the Ogun State Police Command.

Following the viral video, some social media users falsely claimed that Mirabel had been arrested, suggesting her account was fabricated. The Ogun Police quickly moved to dispel these rumors.

In a statement on X on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that Mirabel voluntarily presented herself at Ibafo Police Division on Wednesday, February 18, to file a formal report. She was later taken to Ogijo Division, the correct jurisdiction, but was deemed too distressed to provide further details at that time.

“She was immediately taken for a comprehensive medical check-up, and her health is being closely monitored, as her wellbeing remains paramount. At no time was the victim arrested,” Babaseyi stated.

The police emphasised that the case is being handled professionally and urged the public to rely on verified information from official sources before sharing updates.

Babaseyi added, “The Police are handling the matter professionally and urge the public to verify information through official channels before dissemination.”
