An early-morning fire has swept through the Fatima Simra Multi-Purpose Market in Dakata Quarters, the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The blaze, which reportedly began in the early hours of Friday, destroyed several shops, primarily occupied by small-scale businesses involved in oil production and the recycling of plastics and nylon.

The incident comes barely a week after a massive fire at the popular Singer Market, which resulted in the loss of goods worth several millions of naira.
Confirming the latest outbreak, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said firefighters were still at the scene attempting to contain the blaze.

“As I speak with you, our personnel are on-site battling the fire, which is still raging. We are yet to determine the cause and the full extent of the damage,” Abdullahi said.

In February 2026, two separate fires at Singer Market caused significant losses estimated in billions of naira. In response, Governor Abba Yusuf donated N100 million to affected traders during a sympathy visit, while the Federal Government and the Progressive Governors Forum contributed N8 billion to support victims and cushion the economic impact.
