The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has deployed National Rapid Response Teams to states affected by the growing outbreak of Lassa fever, as cases continue to rise across the country, including among healthcare workers.

Director-General of the agency, Jide Idris, disclosed this in Abuja while providing an update on national efforts to contain the spread of infectious diseases.

He said the deployment of the rapid response teams is aimed at strengthening surveillance, case management, infection prevention and control measures in the affected states.

Idris expressed concern over the impact of the outbreak on healthcare workers, stressing the need for strict adherence to infection prevention protocols in health facilities.

He also urged state governments to prioritise sustained investment in disease surveillance, preparedness and response systems at the sub-national level, noting that effective containment requires coordinated efforts between federal and state authorities.

The NCDC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with state governments and other partners to curb the spread of Lassa fever and protect public health.
