A 30-year-old Nigerian fashion designer, Sheriff Shittu, was fatally shot at a nightclub in Brooklyn, New York, following an altercation with a drunk patron.
The incident occurred on February 14 at around 4:25 a.m. at the Quilox Restaurant and Lounge in the East Flatbush area.
Shittu, who was celebrating a friend’s birthday with his brother, Fawaz, got into a confrontation with the patron, who had allegedly been behaving disorderly and touched some female guests inappropriately, including Shittu’s girlfriend.
The suspect was being escorted out of the club when he opened fire, hitting Shittu.
The family is calling for justice, questioning how the security personnel allowed a gun into the club. “We don’t know how the security did not do the job and search properly before somebody could bring a gun into the club,” Salem Shittu, the deceased’s brother, said.
