Guinea has released 16 Sierra Leonean security personnel arrested earlier this week, following diplomatic talks between the two countries.

The personnel were detained amid a border dispute, with Guinea claiming they entered its territory without authorization.

Sierra Leone, however, maintains its forces were constructing a border post within its recognized territory.

The release follows discussions involving Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister, Timothy Musa Kabba, and Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah.

The border dispute dates back to Sierra Leone’s 1991-2002 civil war, when Guinea deployed troops to help fight rebels.
