A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Moses Adeyemo, has been elected as the new chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Adeyemo was announced at the party’s state congress held at Liberty Stadium in Ibadan, following consultations among key stakeholders across the 33 local government areas of Oyo State.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the emergence of Adeyemo was described as the outcome of broad-based consensus among party leaders.

Adeyemo, an indigene of Igboho in Oorelope Local Government Area, served as deputy governor under the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi from 2011 to 2019.

Hon. Azeez Repete, former National Youth Leader and Secretary of the party’s ad hoc zoning committee, confirmed that the congress was conducted peacefully under the supervision of a congress committee constituted by the APC national leadership in Abuja. He stated that Adeyemo emerged by consensus.

Repete also disclosed that an ad hoc zoning committee, chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle with himself as secretary, was established to allocate positions in the State Executive Committee among local government chapters. Other members of the committee include Idris Adeoye, Adesoji Adedeji, Ajiboye Sangogade, and Akeem Olatunji.

The APC national leadership had scheduled March 3 for the conduct of state congresses nationwide, ahead of the party’s National Convention set for March 27 and 28. The congresses follow the completion of ward and local government congresses held in February, as well as the election of delegates for the upcoming convention.

According to the adjusted 2026 schedule of activities signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, appeals arising from the congresses will be heard on March 4, while processes for zonal congresses and the National Convention will continue later in the month.
