Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West, has announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dickson cited irreconcilable differences within the PDP as the reason for his exit, emphasizing that Nigeria cannot be a one-party state.

During a media briefing in Abuja, Dickson urged Nigerians to identify with and register in the NDC, describing it as a credible alternative opposition party.

The NDC, registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has the victory sign as its symbol.

Dickson, a former Bayelsa State Governor, stressed that Nigeria’s diversity culturally, religiously, and politically makes it unsuitable for a one-party system.

He recalled his roots in opposition politics and emphasized the need for parties that prioritize the people’s welfare.

The NDC is one of two new parties registered by INEC, alongside the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), bringing the total number of registered parties to 21.
