Ghana’s United Nations peacekeeping battalion in Lebanon was hit by missile attacks on Friday, leaving two soldiers critically injured and another traumatized.
The officers’ mess facility was also hit and burned down.
The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed the attack, stating that the incident occurred amid ongoing exchanges between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
The Ghanaian government has formally protested the incident at the UN headquarters in New York, demanding a full investigation and accountability for those responsible.
The UNIFIL mission has also condemned the attack, emphasizing that peacekeepers must never be targeted.
The injured soldiers are receiving treatment and are currently stable.
The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that the remaining troops are safe and sheltered in underground bunkers.
