Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The move, announced Monday, follows extensive consultations with stakeholders and party leaders.
Lawal’s decision aims to address Zamfara’s security and development challenges.
In a statement, his media aide Nuhu Anka cited internal PDP crises and leadership disagreements as reasons for the defection.
The governor thanked PDP members for their support, noting prevailing political circumstances necessitated the move.
APC now has 31 governors nationwide. Lawal, 60, is expected to seek re-election in 2027.
This development comes after a Court of Appeal ruling restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognizing the PDP Ibadan convention outcome.
