The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the arrest of four suspected bandits near Akure Airport in Ondo State.
It was gathered that the assailants were going to infiltrate the airport premises and hijack a plane.
The suspects were apprehended following a coordinated security operation involving aviation and local security agencies, including the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, and Nigeria Police Force.
According to FAAN, the operation was launched after a distress alert reported suspicious individuals behind the airport perimeter towards the Eleyewo community.

The joint security team responded swiftly, apprehending the four suspects who attempted to flee the scene.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, commended the collaboration among security personnel, stating, “FAAN reassures the travelling public and airport host communities of its unwavering commitment to maintaining the safety and security of all airport facilities nationwide”.
The incident highlights concerns about airport security, prompting the Federal Government to accelerate the provision of modern perimeter fencing and enhanced security infrastructure at airports nationwide.
In the last three weeks, there has been frequent attacks within a 20km radius of the Akure Airport, highlighting the Insecurity situation in Akure North and the broader Ondo State.
