Former Senator Abdulaziz Nyako has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), just months after joining the party.
Nyako, who represented Adamawa central from 2015 to 2019, announced his return to the APC on Saturday during a visit by Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to his residence in Yola, the state capital.
Fintiri described Nyako as a “formidable figure” who will strengthen the APC in the state, citing his experience and influence.
Nyako, son of former Adamawa Governor Murtala Nyako, was elected to the senate on the APC platform but later defected to the ADC, where he was the party’s governorship candidate in the 2019 poll.
The defection comes amid a leadership crisis in the Adamawa chapter of the ADC, with rival factions clashing over the party’s state chairmanship position.
