Tension gripped Kwara State Polytechnic on Wednesday after reports of the presence of operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission sparked panic among students during ongoing examinations.
Witnesses said the operatives were seen around areas close to the campus, with a viral video allegedly showing an officer chasing a student, triggering confusion as students ran in different directions.
The situation led to a protest by some students, who reportedly burnt tyres along the Old Jebba Road leading to the institution. Signs of the demonstration, including burnt debris, were later observed at the school entrance, while security presence was heightened to prevent escalation.
In response, the Polytechnic management clarified that the operation did not take place within the campus but in nearby Agbede village, stressing that no students were arrested.
The institution added that only a small group of students participated in the protest and confirmed that calm had been restored, with examinations continuing as scheduled.
Efforts to get a reaction from the EFCC were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
