The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has postponed all examinations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday, left at least 13 people dead and several others injured, prompting the Plateau State Government to impose a 48-hour curfew in the area.
In a statement, Deputy Registrar Emmanuel Madugu said the decision to suspend exams was taken to ensure the safety of staff and students, many of whom reside in the affected area.
The university management has advised students and staff to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movements, and report any security concerns to the institution’s security unit.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Plateau State, which has been plagued by deadly farmer-herder conflicts. The Plateau State Government has condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric and unprovoked”.
