The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Fatai Tijani, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from all traffic control and enforcement duties across the state.
The directive was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, who said the move is aimed at improving professionalism, accountability, and clarity in traffic management operations.

According to the police, the withdrawal is limited to traffic-related responsibilities, while other operational duties of the task force remain unaffected.
The command also clarified that the task force is not the only agency responsible for enforcement in the state, urging residents and motorists to verify the identity of officials before making complaints or allegations.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and called on the public to cooperate with legitimate security agencies.
The directive comes amid recent public backlash following allegations of extortion involving task force operatives, including a viral video showing officials allegedly manipulating traffic situations to penalise motorists.
