Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s condolence visit to Plateau State, describing it as lacking compassion and empathy.
Obi faulted Tinubu for meeting victims of the Jos attack at the airport instead of visiting the affected communities, saying true leadership requires physical presence and empathy in moments of crisis.
Obi referenced a similar visit by Tinubu to Benue State in 2025, where he didn’t visit the scene of an attack, emphasizing that Plateau deserves more than distant words and requires urgent action to end insecurity.
The Presidency had cited logistical constraints for not visiting the affected communities, but critics argue this reflects a disconnect from victims of violence.
The latest violence in Plateau State occurred on Palm Sunday, killing at least 27 people and injuring several others, part of a recurring pattern of communal and sectarian clashes.
