Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has begun early political consultations with the state’s influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC), sparking speculation about the 2027 governorship race.

In a post on X, Hamzat confirmed that he met with members of the council on Monday, describing the engagement as part of broader discussions on the future direction of Lagos State and its leadership needs.

He said the meeting focused on “thoughtful conversations” about governance and development, adding that he values the experience and guidance of the council in shaping long-term plans for the state.

The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) is a powerful decision-making body within the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), playing a key role in succession planning, zoning arrangements, and political endorsements. It is led by Tajudeen Olusi and includes prominent figures such as President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

Hamzat’s engagement has drawn attention within political circles, where early consultations with stakeholders are often seen as a signal of possible ambition ahead of elections.

While some social media reactions have interpreted the meeting as a potential endorsement for a future governorship bid, there has been no official confirmation from the GAC or the APC.

Party sources have also dismissed circulating claims of a consensus candidate, stressing that discussions on the 2027 election remain informal and premature.
