United Nigeria Airlines has grounded one of its CRJ-900 aircraft following a bird strike incident involving Flight UN0579 during landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
In a statement issued by the airline’s Public Relations Office, the affected flight had departed from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, and was scheduled to arrive at 18:15 on Tuesday.

The airline said the aircraft has been withdrawn from service to undergo detailed technical inspections and necessary maintenance before returning to operations, in line with safety protocols.
It added that the development may disrupt some scheduled flights across its network, while apologising to passengers for any inconvenience caused.
United Nigeria Airlines emphasised that safety remains its top priority.
The airline also disclosed that the incident is the fifth bird strike involving its aircraft since January 2026, noting that all previous cases were handled in accordance with aviation safety regulations and standard procedures.
The statement reaffirmed the carrier’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards and operational reliability.
