Gbenga Daniel, senator representing Ogun East, was barred from attending a caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

A viral video on X showed the moment the senator’s convoy was denied access to the premises of Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu Ode, where the meeting was in progress.

Addressing his supporters from a white bus outside the venue, Daniel said any decisions made at the sit-down would be invalid. “We are here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred. We are told that we can’t enter, but let it be said that whatever they do here today is null and void,” he said in Yoruba.

In August 2025, the Ogun State chapter of the APC suspended Daniel indefinitely over alleged anti-party activities. TheCable had reported that the senator asked his supporters to vote for Bolarinwa Oluwole, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the August 16 by-election in the state.

The by-election in the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North federal constituency was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by the death of Adewunmi Onanuga. Adesola Elegbeji of the APC was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), polling 41,237 votes to defeat Oluwole, who garnered 14,324 votes.

Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State who was first elected to the Senate in 2023, is seeking a second term. Governor Dapo Abiodun is also vying for the APC ticket for the Ogun East senatorial district. The race for the party’s ticket is said to have caused tensions between the two politicians.
