The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards has announced a new hosting lineup for its 12th edition, with Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha set to co-host the ceremony scheduled for May 9, 2026, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

The announcement marks the end of an era for longtime host IK Osakioduwa, who has anchored the awards since its inception in 2013, becoming widely recognised for his signature humour and stage presence.

Following the unveiling, Osakioduwa congratulated the new hosts on social media, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver a memorable show.

Bovi described the appointment as a major honour, noting the significance of stepping into a role long defined by Osakioduwa’s legacy. He said he intends to bring energy, humour, and excitement to the stage.

Mbatha, a prominent South African actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, said hosting the AMVCA represents an opportunity to celebrate African storytelling on a continental stage. She is currently known for her role in the series Shaka iLembe and her appearance in Hollywood’s Coming 2 America.

Organisers said the 2026 edition will also introduce two new categories: Best Indigenous Language (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language (Central Africa), expanding the awards’ continental reach.

The judging panel will be led by veteran actress Joke Silva, as part of efforts to strengthen credibility and industry representation in the selection process.

The AMVCA organisers said the changes reflect the evolving nature of African film and television, and a broader commitment to showcasing stories from across the continent.
