President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking confirmation of Joseph Tegbe as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The request was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Tuesday in a letter addressed to the chamber.

Citing Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the President to nominate ministers subject to Senate approval, Tinubu urged lawmakers to consider the request promptly.

In the same letter, the President also sought confirmation of Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State and Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Tinubu had nominated Tegbe as Minister of Power last week. “The nomination has been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in accordance with the Constitution,” presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said.

Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue the Oyo State governorship ahead of the 2027 election.

Like Adelabu, Tegbe is from Oyo State and has over 35 years of experience in fiscal and economic reform across the public and private sectors. A former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, he led initiatives on fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.

He has also advised government institutions and private organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring.

Until his nomination, Tegbe served as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he worked to strengthen bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and China.
