Rano Air has temporarily suspended some of its flight routes following the sharp increase in aviation fuel prices and rising operational costs in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
In a statement issued on Friday, the airline said the more than 300 per cent rise in the cost of Jet A1 fuel has made operations on some routes difficult and commercially unsustainable.
The airline explained that the increase in fuel prices had placed significant pressure on its operations, forcing it to scale back services on affected routes.
“Rano Air has taken the difficult but necessary decision to suspend some of our routes temporarily,” the statement read.
The airline, however, did not disclose the specific routes affected by the suspension.
Rano Air assured passengers with existing bookings on the impacted routes that support would be provided through refunds, rescheduling or rerouting options.
The carrier also expressed optimism that operations on the suspended routes would resume once conditions improve and become operationally viable.
The development adds to concerns over the financial challenges facing Nigerian airlines due to soaring aviation fuel prices and increasing operating expenses.
Several domestic airlines have in recent months warned that the rising cost of Jet A1 fuel is affecting operations, leading to delays, cancellations and reduced flight frequencies across the country.
Rano Air reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe, reliable and sustainable operations despite the current challenges.
