Former Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has officially joined the All Progressives Congress, arriving at the party’s secretariat in Ondo West Local Government on Thursday.
Mimiko was received by APC state chairman Babatunde Kolawole and House of Assembly Speaker Olamide Oladiji amid a warm welcome from party members.
The two-term governor resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party in April, ending months of speculation about his political future. He governed Ondo State from 2009 to 2017 and previously held prominent roles in the Labour Party before moving to the PDP.
According to sources, his return to active politics comes after a period of relative quiet, during which he maintained influence through loyalists and structures across the state.
Party insiders say Mimiko’s experience, grassroots appeal, and network will strengthen the APC’s base, especially in Ondo Central Senatorial District where he remains influential.
Mimiko’s former spokesman, Mr. Akinsola, confirmed the defection and said arrangements for his reception into the party had been concluded.
