Prominent activist, Aisha Yesufu, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where she also declared her intention to contest the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement posted on her X account on Wednesday, Yesufu said her decision was driven by a “deeper understanding of the future of the nation” and her continued alignment with the political direction of former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

She said her initial support for Obi had influenced her earlier move to the ADC, adding that her latest defection to the NDC was a continuation of that political commitment.

“When I give my word, I keep it,” she wrote, noting that her transition was meant to honour earlier political promises and beliefs.

Yesufu also confirmed that she would not only be joining the NDC but would be contesting for the FCT senatorial seat under the party’s platform.

She said her time in the ADC was fulfilling, describing her experience in various leadership roles within the party as valuable, while thanking members for their support.

Her defection comes amid growing political realignments within Nigeria’s opposition landscape, following the recent movement of key political figures into the NDC, which has triggered a wave of further defections from the ADC.
