The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of assets linked to Anamekwe Nwabuoku, former acting accountant-general of the federation, following his conviction for money laundering.
Justice James Omotosho granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s application on Wednesday, ordering the forfeiture of N1.9 billion worth of shares, N288 million in cash assets, and a five-bedroom duplex in Abuja traced to Nwabuoku.
The court held that the assets were proceeds of unlawful activity, based on its March judgment convicting the former AGF. Nwabuoku was sentenced to 72 years imprisonment after being found guilty on all nine counts of money laundering and fraud involving N868.4 million. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The EFCC had accused Nwabuoku of conspiring with companies including Temeeo Synergy Concept Limited, Turge Global Investment Limited, Laptev Bridge Limited, and Arafura Transnational Afro Limited to convert funds suspected to be proceeds of crime.
The judge ordered that all forfeited funds, property, and shares be transferred to the federal government.
