Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has formally presented Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the APC’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The presentation was made on Thursday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ilaro, Yewa South LGA, alongside APC state chairman Yemi Sanusi and members of the state executive committee. Adeola currently represents Ogun West in the Senate.
Abiodun said backing a candidate from Ogun West was meant to correct a long-standing imbalance, noting the district has not produced a governor since the state was created about 50 years ago. He said the consensus followed wide consultations and was ratified at a state caucus meeting in Abeokuta, where Adeola received unanimous endorsement.
The governor called it a major political milestone and urged party members to stay united. He assured aspirants who missed out that the party would compensate all “serious candidates,” and announced that direct primaries would begin Friday.
Adeola thanked party leaders for the confidence reposed in him and accepted the endorsement as the party’s candidate for the February 6, 2027 election. He pledged to tour all 236 wards after the primaries and urged members to work together for APC’s victory.
He also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu and former President Olusegun Obasanjo for their mentorship, and described Abiodun as a role model.
