Senator Aminu Tambuwal has withdrawn from the 2027 race for Sokoto South under the African Democratic Congress and thrown his support behind former state finance commissioner Faruk Yabo.
Tambuwal’s aide Michael Abimboye confirmed the development to TheCable on Friday evening. The move followed a reconciliation agreement among ADC stakeholders in the state.
Senator Ibrahim Lamido, who represents Sokoto East, also reportedly stepped down from his contest after the same deal. The party is yet to announce its candidate for Sokoto East.
Tambuwal defected from the PDP to the ADC in March. He represented Tambuwal/Kebbe in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2015, served as Speaker from 2011 to 2015, and was governor of Sokoto State from 2015 to 2023.
In January, he said Nigeria was in “peril” and needed “salvation” from its political, social, and economic challenges, pledging to work with anyone committed to good democratic governance.
