Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has secured the All Progressives Congress ticket for Gombe North senatorial district following direct primaries held on Tuesday across the state’s three districts.

Yahaya participated in the exercise across the district’s 52 wards. Speaking after the result, he said his focus remained on the development of Gombe State and the APC’s goals for the region. Analysts described the move as an effort to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The primaries produced a major upset in Gombe Central, where incumbent senator and former governor Danjuma Goje lost the ticket after 16 years in office. He was defeated by retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ahmadu, who is seen as having the backing of the state administration.

In Gombe South, Jerry Damara won the APC ticket. He pledged to prioritize infrastructure and economic empowerment if elected.

Party officials said the primaries were conducted peacefully across local government areas, with results collated and forwarded for final declaration in line with APC guidelines.

The outcome marks a shift in Gombe APC’s internal dynamics, with observers noting the consolidation of influence under the current state leadership as the party prepares for 2027.
