Former Bayelsa State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress national leader, Seriake Dickson, will inaugurate the party’s 21-member Selection Committee in Abuja on Monday as part of preparations for the general elections.
The inauguration comes after the completion of screening exercises for governorship, National Assembly, and State Houses of Assembly aspirants across the country.
According to a statement from NDC National Publicity Secretary Osa Director, the committee was set up to strengthen internal democracy and ensure a transparent process for selecting candidates for all elective positions. It will review reports and recommendations from the National Screening Committee and the State Houses of Assembly Screening Committees, and take decisions on the screening outcomes.
The committee will be chaired by NDC National Chairman Sen. Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe. The party said the panel is meant to help field strong candidates for every contested position in the upcoming elections.
Dickson will also host an Aspirants Dinner later on Monday at 6:00 pm in Abuja for screened aspirants and selected party stakeholders. NDC National Secretary Ikenna Enekweizu said the event is intended to promote unity and engagement within the party, adding that attendance is strictly by invitation.
