The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Kabir.
Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the holidays in a statement issued on Monday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani. He said the declaration reflects the government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of Nigerian Muslims observing the festival.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful in Nigeria and abroad, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a festival of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity. He urged Nigerians to use the period for prayer and reflection on peace, security, and the country’s prosperity.
The minister also called on citizens to embrace brotherhood, unity, and peaceful coexistence during the celebration, and wished Muslims a peaceful and blessed Eid-ul-Adha.
