Senator Kabiru Marafa has emerged as the Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate for governor in Zamfara State.
Marafa was selected through consensus as the sole aspirant during a party gathering in Gusau on Friday. The chairman of the party’s election committee, Aminu Jelani, announced the result.
Marafa served as the Zamfara campaign coordinator for the Tinubu/Shettima ticket in the 2023 general elections. After his selection, he said corruption was the main cause of the state’s challenges and pledged to focus on transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public funds if elected.
He also promised to improve security, strengthen governance, promote welfare, and ensure fair distribution of resources across the state.
The NDC said it had announced candidates for all 34 electable positions in Zamfara.
In a related development, NDC leader Rabiu Kwankwaso announced Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the party’s governorship candidate for Kano State and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna as the candidate for Kano Central Senatorial District. Kwankwaso said the choices were made after consultations and were based on equity, fairness, loyalty, and competence.
