Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso sat down for talks in Kano on Thursday night.
Kwankwaso, who is the Nigeria Democratic Congress’ vice-presidential candidate for 2027, visited Obasanjo at his temporary residence in the city. He was joined by Aminu Gwarzo, ex-deputy governor of Kano and the NDC’s 2027 governorship candidate.
According to Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, the meeting happened while Obasanjo was in Kano for an official engagement. Hassan called the exchange “warm” and “constructive.”
The meeting adds to speculation around the NDC’s plans for 2027. Obasanjo has been a vocal supporter of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. He backed Obi ahead of the 2023 election, saying Obi was “a needle with thread attached from north and south” and had people who could “pull his ears when necessary.”
Obi eventually placed third in that election behind Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu, the winner.
