Operatives of the Department of State Services arrested former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, on Wednesday morning at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
Nnaji was detained as he prepared to board a private jet bound for Abuja, according to a security source familiar with the operation.
The DSS acted at the request of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. Nnaji was later transferred to the ICPC. The anti-graft agency is investigating allegations of certificate forgery against the ex-minister.
A source said the ICPC had sent multiple invitations to Nnaji in connection with petitions on how he managed the ministry. After he failed to honour the invitations, the commission requested DSS assistance to effect the arrest.
Nnaji resigned from the federal cabinet last October amid controversy.
The arrest is the latest in a string of high-profile interventions by the DSS and ICPC targeting alleged misconduct by former public officials.
