Pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have finally returned to Ibadan after spending 56 days in captivity.
The group arrived at the Oyo State Secretariat on Monday. They were transported in a van and received under tight military security. Video from Oyo Affairs showed them stepping out of the vehicle as armed operatives escorted them into the premises.
Their release was announced by the Federal Government on Friday. Security agencies confirmed that all those taken had been freed.
The abduction happened on May 15, 2026, when gunmen stormed the school in Oriire. Since then, the victims had been receiving medical care and psychosocial support at the Military Hospital in Ibadan.
Governor Seyi Makinde visited them there on Saturday. Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, also paid them a visit at the hospital.
Parents said they were relieved by the news and are now waiting to be reunited with their children.
The handover marks the end of a nearly two-month ordeal that drew widespread calls for action from education unions and community leaders.
