Kenya’s government is investigating a cybersecurity incident that disrupted the official website of the president on Saturday.
The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy said the government’s ICT Authority detected the issue and moved quickly to contain it. Access to the presidential site was temporarily restricted while forensic checks were carried out.
Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Gitau said in a statement on X that no sensitive data appears to have been compromised.
“At this time, there is no evidence of unauthorised access to sensitive data, data exfiltration, or loss of information. Government systems and digital services remain secure and operational,” he said.
Mitigation measures have already been put in place, and restoration of the website is underway, according to the ministry.
The ICT Authority is working with other government agencies and technical partners to determine exactly how the incident happened.
The report comes amid a wave of cyber incidents in the region. This week Colombia’s Ecopetrol said a cyberattack stole data linked to 3,300 accounts, and Abbott said it was investigating two separate cyber incidents.
