Gunmen attacked Naridon Village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday night, killing at least 30 people, including women and children.
Community members say the assailants also set several homes on fire, leaving the village in mourning and many residents displaced.
Two residents, Ibrahim John and Mallam Katuka, confirmed the attack to SaharaReporters in WhatsApp messages. According to locals, 30 bodies have been recovered so far, but the number could rise as search efforts continue.
Photos from the scene show homes reduced to ashes and widespread destruction. The number of injured and displaced people has not yet been confirmed.
The attack has renewed fears about security in Kauru LGA and across Southern Kaduna. Community leaders are urging the Kaduna State Government, the Federal Government, and security agencies to send more personnel to the area and take stronger action to stop further violence.
This incident comes days after another tragedy in the region. On Friday, reports emerged that at least eight people abducted from Ariko and Awon villages in Kachia LGA died in captivity. Journalist and former Kaduna government spokesperson Reuben Buhari said seven were from Ariko and one was a newborn born to a woman kidnapped from Awon. All were said to have died after spending more than three months in harsh conditions.
Residents say the back-to-back attacks show how insecurity continues to worsen for communities in Southern Kaduna.
