Armed hoodlums blocked two buses along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu LGA, Kogi State on Wednesday and abducted several passengers, including National Youth Service Corps members returning from the orientation camp in Kolokuma/Opokuma, Bayelsa State.
According to the Kogi Police Command, the attackers struck around 4:40pm near Ogene Zaria/Onicha-Igo Junction, killing one driver while others escaped into the bush.
A joint security team led by the DPO Ofu recovered a Peace Mass Transit white Hummer bus and a yellow 18-seater bus, and carried out a bush-combing operation that led to the rescue of 11 victims, including both drivers.
Police spokesperson Saliu Afusat said most of those rescued were NYSC members traveling to Abuja and other states, and they were debriefed before continuing their journey. The command added that efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims.
The incident has sparked outcry on X, with family members like Chidimma and Chisom Ede appealing to the government, NYSC and security agencies for help, while another user @ddevilsworkshop claimed his sister was on board and alleged the kidnappers were demanding N20 million ransom.
