Nigeria has congratulated Colombia’s President-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, on his electoral victory ahead of his inauguration on August 7.
The Federal Government, in a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X, described the election outcome as a democratic expression of the will of the Colombian people.
The statement, signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said Nigeria looked forward to working with the incoming administration to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
“Nigeria and Colombia share a steadfast commitment to democracy, peace and sustainable development,” the statement read.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to deepening the existing relationship between Nigeria and Colombia, particularly in trade, investment, security and South-South cooperation.
It expressed confidence that the longstanding ties between the two countries would continue to grow under de la Espriella’s leadership for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The Nigerian government also wished the President-elect success as he prepares to assume office, expressing optimism that his administration would promote peace, progress and prosperity for the Colombian people.
De la Espriella is expected to be sworn in as Colombia’s president on August 7.
