Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Sunday led former Ekiti governor Kayode Fayemi and former Osun governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola to a closed-door meeting with ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The meeting was held at Obasanjo’s Penthouse inside the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.
Makinde announced the visit on Facebook, saying the conversation focused on “important national issues” ahead of the 2027 general election.
“Earlier today, we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, in Abeokuta. Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election,” Makinde wrote. “We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history.”
The gathering brought together three major political blocs. Makinde is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement for 2027. Oyinlola remains a key PDP stakeholder, the party under which Obasanjo served two terms. Fayemi is a senior APC figure who has in recent months made comments seen as critical of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
That mix has fueled speculation about realignments ahead of 2027, especially given Fayemi’s recent remarks about the ruling party.
The meeting comes as political leaders begin early consultations for the next election cycle, with Obasanjo’s counsel often sought by figures across party lines.
