The Osun APC governorship campaign council has fired back at Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of making reckless and seditious remarks against President Bola Tinubu in the run-up to the August 15 election.
The dispute started after Adeleke, speaking at a rally in Olorunda LGA on Monday, asked Tinubu to intervene in what he called rising pre-election violence in the state. He urged the president to ensure a credible vote and warned against a repeat of the political clashes that followed the disputed 1983 governorship election in the South-West.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Director-General of the Osun APC campaign council, Oluwole Oke, described Adeleke’s comments as false and an attempt to blackmail the president.
Oke said the governor also alleged that Tinubu was withholding federal allocations meant for the 30 local government areas in Osun. According to the APC, that claim is untrue.
“The legally recognized local government administration in Osun receives its statutory federal allocations every month,” Oke said. “It is misleading for the governor to accuse President Tinubu of withholding LG funds. This is only meant to tarnish the president’s democratic credentials.”
The campaign council also rejected Adeleke’s claims of political intimidation. Oke alleged that more than 30 APC members and supporters have been killed since 2022 by “Accord Party thugs” allegedly backed by the state government, with at least 10 of the deaths recorded recently.
He further said Adeleke would have to account for state finances after leaving office. The APC listed a ₦2 billion federal grant for CNG buses released in 2023, ₦17 billion in ecological funds received in 2024 and 2025, and over ₦1 trillion in total revenue to the state under Adeleke’s administration.
“Governor Adeleke should reserve his tears for the day he will be called to answer questions on the alleged mismanagement of Osun resources,” Oke added.
Adeleke is seeking a second term on the platform of the Accord Party. The APC is fielding Bola Oyebamiji in its bid to take back Osun after four years out of power.
