Nollywood actors, including Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko and Toyosi Adesanya, have arrived in Ilaro, Ogun State, for the burial of veteran actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
The actors arrived in the deceased’s hometown on Monday morning ahead of the burial rites scheduled for later in the day.
Also present in Ilaro are Ireti Osayemi and Bisi Omo Logbalogba, who are expected to join family members, colleagues and well-wishers for the Janazah prayers in honour of the late actor.
Another actor, Bola Oyin-Adejobi, paid tribute to Ogogo during an interview with journalists ahead of the burial and prayed for the deceased to attain Al-Jannah Firdaus.
The burial follows the arrival of Ogogo’s remains in Ilaro on Sunday, a day after his death.
Ogogo died at about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66.
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko announced his death in a statement shared on Instagram, saying the actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro for a lying-in-state ceremony.
The statement read, “With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years.”
The Ilaro Muslim Community also announced the burial prayer for the veteran actor at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground.
Ogogo’s death came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed for medical assistance for their father, who had reportedly been battling stage-four cancer.
Kaira had disclosed that doctors told the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition, prompting the family to explore other treatment options.
The late actor was one of the prominent figures in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba-language cinema.
His career spanned more than four decades, during which he featured in hundreds of films and became one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba Nollywood.
His burial has drawn colleagues, family members, friends and admirers to Ilaro to pay their final respects to the veteran actor.
