At least 16 people died and 28 more were injured Wednesday morning after a bus crashed on the coastal road linking the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in Egypt’s South Sinai governorate.
Egypt’s health ministry said 20 ambulances were dispatched to the scene to treat victims and transport the wounded to hospital. The cause of the accident has not been confirmed.
Egyptian and Jordanian media outlets reported that Jordanian nationals were among those killed.
The stretch of road is a major route for tourists visiting the Red Sea resorts, which draw travelers from around the world.
Road accidents remain a persistent problem in Egypt. Official figures recorded nearly 6,000 road deaths in 2025. Authorities often cite reckless driving and poor road maintenance as key factors.
The crash comes weeks after another deadly collision in the Ismailia governorate last month, where two lorries hit each other, killing 18 people and injuring 30.
