First Lady Tinubu saluted the history-making Falcons, urging them to go for Gold in France in July. She posted on X, formerly known as Twitter “Congratulations our Super Falcons @NGSuper_Falcons,” “Ending a 16-year Olympic jinx is no small feat, and your perseverance and commitment have truly paid off.  “Your hard work, resilience, and team spirit have brought glory to Nigeria and inspired countless young girls across the country to pursue their dreams fearlessly. “I am so proud of all your achievements.”

She therefore tasked the team to aim for the gold medal at Paris 2024. “Your journey doesn’t end here; it’s just the beginning of an even greater adventure,” she urged. “Make Nigeria proud, Super Falcons! Bring home the gold!”

The Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh praised the doggedness of the Falcons and said the country should rally round the team as they gun for more greatness in Paris.  “We salute the Super Falcons for their extraordinary display of tenacity and doggedness, breaking barriers and reclaiming Nigeria’s spot on the Olympic stage,” he said in a press statement. “Their victory is not just a triumph for Nigerian football, but a testament to the power of dedication and teamwork.  “As we look forward to Paris 2024, let us rally behind our champions and support them as they strive for greatness.”

The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C of the Paris Olympics along with world champions Spain, Japan and Brazil. They play their first match against South American Country, Brazil on the 25th of July 2024.
