In a highly anticipated football showdown at Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos businessman Suraj ‘Jarus’ Oyewale’s team, Jarus FC, defeated a handpicked squad of his Twitter followers 4-3 after regulation time.

It would be recalled that Jarus, responding to criticism from some followers on the X platform, issued a challenge to prove his team’s worth, offering a substantial cash prize to anyone who could defeat them. Despite initial selection issues faced by Twitter FC, Jarus ensured the match proceeded as planned.

Jarus had earlier declared his intention to score goals and lead his team to victory, aiming to dispel the notion that his team comprised only amateurs. Despite securing various sponsorships leading up to the game, Jarus was unable to claim a pledged donation for each goal scored by him. The match, co-organized by Osi Suave and other Twitter influencers, saw a competitive clash between the two sides.

The game commenced with Jarus FC taking an early lead, but Twitter FC swiftly equalized. However, a controversial decision disallowed a goal for Twitter FC, and they found themselves trailing 2-1 after conceding from a corner kick. Yet, Twitter FC’s Hakeem Onitolo redeemed the team with an equalizer. Jarus FC then surged ahead with two quick goals, but Twitter FC managed to pull one back just before halftime. The first half concluded with Jarus FC leading 4-3.

The second half saw a more defensive approach from both teams, resulting in fewer scoring opportunities. Despite the efforts of both sides, there were no goals in the second half, and Jarus FC emerged victorious with a 4-3 win at full-time. Twitter FC midfielder, Okpala was awarded the Man of the Match, while Jarus FC’s number 8 player, Wasiu claimed the highest goal scorer award with two goals.
