Former Gubernatorial Candidate Dies at the Age of 62

Kenneth Gbagi, the Social Democratic Party’s gubernatorial in the March 2023 elections has tragically passed away.

His eldest son, Emuoboh Gbagi, confirmed his death in a statement released by the family on Saturday. The statement expressed deep sadness but also gratitude to God for the life of Olorogun Kenneth Omemavwa Gbagi, highlighting his accomplishments and the positive impact he had on countless individuals and communities.

The Late Gbagi who was the former Minister of Education, was born in September 1961 in Delta State, Nigeria, and attended Bishop Johnson Memory Primary School in Sapele before pursuing his education further abroad. He ventured into filmmaking and later pursued studies in political science and criminology.

Returning to Nigeria, Gbagi served in various capacities, including as Minister of State for Education under former President Goodluck Jonathan. In the last Delta State gubernatorial election, he secured the SDP ticket but lost to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the PDP.

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori expressed heartfelt condolences, describing Gbagi’s passing as tragic and heart-wrenching. He extended sympathies to the family, the people of Ughelli South Local Government Area, and the Oginibo community, praying for solace for those mourning the loss.
