The Third Mainland Bridge, currently undergoing partial closure, is slated to reopen for motorists within the coming week.

This announcement was made by David Umahi, the Minister of Works, during his inspection of state projects in Lagos alongside members of the Senate and House Committee on Works.

Umahi emphasised that the reopening of the bridge will offer relief to commuters.

“In the next seven days the bridge will be opened to ease traffic. I have directed the contractors to open the second lane in my name in seven days’ time.

“Officially, President Bola Tinubu will be commissioning the rehabilitated road when he will be commissioning the coastal road,” Umahi said.

He clarified that the 11.8-kilometre dual lanes project, managed by CCEC, was initially contracted for N21 billion, with 30 percent of the amount already disbursed.

Umahi noted, however, that additional expenses have arisen, including asphalt priced at N22,000 per square metre, solar lighting, and CCTV installation. He assured that the government will cover these supplementary costs as stipulated in the contract agreement.
