The Turkey Football Federation (TFF) has concluded its investigation into the altercation between Nigerian player, Bright Osayi-Samuel and a fan during the Fenerbahce vs Trabzonspor match, ruling that no disciplinary action will be taken against the Super Eagles defender.

The Fenerbahce defender garnered praise for his bravery as he stood his ground and defended his teammates when a fan approached them at the Papara Park stadium after the final whistle in Fenerbahce’s 3-2 win over Trabzonspor on the 17th of March 2024.

Trabzonspor will face penalties, including six home matches without spectators and a fine of 3 million 112 thousand TL. Additionally, other individuals involved in the incident, including players like Jayden Oosterwolde, İrfan Can Eğribayat, Egemen Korkmaz, and Fenerbahce officials, Kürşat Çiftlik and Okan Özkan, have been handed various bans and fines by the Federation.

Fenerbahce while reacting to the decision described the TFF’s decision as “incompatible with reality”. In a statement released by the club said its players were defending themselves and “self-protection is considered one of the fundamental rights in both national and international legal norms”. “Our athletes only tried to defend themselves on the field. They exercised their right to self-defense. We will fight until the end to defend this right,” the statement reads.
